LSU's 2nd year CB LT Welch will enter the transfer portal after two seasons with little to no appearances or production overall, although he received a string of opportunities in 2023, most notably during the Ole Miss game.
Succeeding during the 2023 Spring Game and standing out in such a solid way with 2 PBUs and nonstop strong coverage, many tabbed Welch to deliver, develop and become a fixture among the Tigers' defensive lineup.
Instead, Welch didn't play his best when given starting opportunities this season, falling down the pecking order behind two true freshmen (Toviano & Stamps) and a veteran safety moved to corner was preferred over him (Sage Ryan).
Over 9 appearances (5 among the secondary, 4 purely on special teams, 92 total snaps), the Acadiana state champion supplied 9 tackles, 0.5 tackle for loss and a pass break up, although he was torched for 2 charged TDs during his most substantial snaps vs Ole Miss.
Targeted 7 total times, Welch allowed 6 catches for 164 yards.
We wish him the best!

He simply did not show SEC caliber consistency. Coaching may not have helped, but he was overmatched.
