As LSUOdyssey.com reported earlier today, LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly will be moving his 3 year Notre Dame assistant, Dean Petzing, from South Bend down to Louisiana State University.
Petzing was the Maine Blackbears' TEs Coach the previous two years before his arrival at Notre Dame; he spent 2016-17 as Ball State's Assistant Wide Receivers Coach & an OL Grad Assistant.
In 2015, Petzing was the TEs Coach and Offensive Assistant for Villanova, however his first ever season of coaching experience arrived at Yale, Dean assisting on the defensive side of the football.
Next up, LSU Odyssey also reported the hiring of Louisiana Tech's Recruiting Director Sherman Wilson, another local mega recruiting force, becoming yet another big time Boot recruiter who's now being handed the ultimate keys to the Bayou kingdom.
Perhaps the "high profile names" of LSU's staff, the assistants many called "the best recruiters in Louisiana", weren't actually doing as well as they could have....with many local talents hitting the road to other major programs during the past 5 years....
Wilson has bounced around and grabbed plenty of experience from the NFL to the collegiate ranks:
Graduating from Southeastern Louisiana with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management and a Master's Degree in Coaching & Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Wilson also learned scouting & evaluation aspects of the game while serving as an assistant with the Los Angeles Rams, from 2020 to 2021.
In 2020, when Wilson went to Memphis University, his arrival helped sign the program's greatest ever class; During 2019 while coordinating Southern University's recruiting, Wilson propelled the school to an all time high: ranking #1 in the HBCU recruiting rankings for the first time ever.
-Football Scoop, a site that seem perfectly fine with taking our stories for their own (Cortez Hankton, Mike Denbrock, Myles Brennan, Deion Smith, etc cough cough) put out a story today announcing Notre Dame's OL Coach Jeff Quinn would be following Brian Kelly to LSU.
This would be the 5th time Quinn follows Kelly to his next staff, spending 21 of his 26 active coaching seasons alongside Notre Dame's all-time winningest coach, though Quinn would be accepting a demotion:
Dropping down to an OL analysts' role under OL Coach Brad Davis in the pecking order....although for a veteran OL coach who may be tired of the on-field factor, a prime recruiting & off-field support role may be exactly what his lifestyle demands....or, next to Brad Davis, Quinn & LSU's former interim head coach could form the best OL Coaching tandem in America.
Quinn was rated among Rivals.com's Top 25 Recruiters of 2021, especially after a huge class that nabbed Notre Dame's first 5 star OL in over 6 years, Blake Fisher, secured in-demand Clarkston High beast Rocco Spindler, and flipped 4 star Florida-native Caleb Johnson from Auburn (held offers from LSU, Alabama, Miami etc);
We have no problem citing those who report their own work...as you can see above...I wonder why Football Scoop does???
-As Jimmy Details, Jimmy Smith from Tigerdetails.com, reported yesterday: sports apparel megaforce Shock Doctor's Jordan Arcement will be a part of Kelly's recruiting staff.
Arcement was Coach Bronco Mendenhall's Director of Recruiting Communications and Senior Scout at University of Virginia from 2018-2020, as well as spending 2 years at Ellender High School as their WRs Coach, and playing receiver for Nicholls State in his college career.
Arcement was a standout player throughout his playing career, though it was hit by injuries.
Since 2020, Jordan has been working on the NIL side of college football, a peak behind the door which Brian Kelly is eager to get access to.
-As LSUOdyssey.com reported on January 7th, UGA's current Wide Receivers Coach Cortez Hankton Jr will be named LSU's next wideouts impresario, taking over from former LSU & current Nebraska WRs Coach Mickey Joseph.
Hankton Jr holds numerous records at Texas Southern as a receiver and has now led UGA's productive wide receiving corps to a CFP Championship Game......although, the real interest has been the former St. Augustine High all-timer's recruiting pedigree & New Orleans native's Louisiana ties which attracted Brian Kelly most.
The son of parents who were both officers for the New Orleans Police Department, Cortez Hankton Jr was an NFL receiver for Jacksonville, Minnesota and Tampa Bay, being signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2003 draft and staying just over 5 seasons in the NFL.
At UGA, Hankton Jr has been a revelation for a program who struggled to build consistent wide receiving corps beyond the 1 or 2 headline guys: Cortez made that happen, producing talents such as George Pickens, Terry Godwin, Mecole Hardman, and Riley Ridley.
-Some more great news: as LSUOdyssey.com reported earlier this morning, Coach Brian Kelly will retain both JR Belton and Mason Smith, two key members of LSU's support / recruiting staff, respectively;
JR is a longtime Tiger vet who, alongside Jeff Martin, was a major part of the perfect locker room vibe of the 2019 championship team;
Under 35, Mason Smith is the most talented recruiting assistant at his age in the country....keeping both in purple & gold wasn't just paramount, it was a necessity.

Thanks Lonn. Great summary. Sometimes fans forget how analysts and support staff are so important to a programs success. You were on Hankton and made the specific call to LSU first.
