Following his magnificent 3 sacks vs South Carolina, LSU edge rusher Bradyn Swinson was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, becoming the 4th Tiger to rack up 3 sacks in a single game since 2020, joining BJ Ojulari, Maason Smith and teammate Harold Perkins. Leading the charge as LSU fought back from a 17 point deficit to win the highly charged morning massacre in Columbia, Swinson also helped the Tigers' defense register their most combined sacks since the 2022 Arkansas game.

Swinson, an LSU graduate, is aiming for an NFL Draft-propelling campaign, and after his Week 3 outing against South Carolina, the Georgia-born pass rusher has the full attention of scouts, analysts, media and fans across the country.

Cobbling together 7 QB pressures, 3 tackles for loss, 3 sacks (career high), 1 forced fumble, alongside 5 tackles (4 solo), Swinson was stardust for Blake Baker's under fire defense, struggling in a 1st half where they were outgained, outcoached, outplayed, and beaten up inside the trenches...but the second year Tiger transfer changed all that:

Swinson shook off an early missed TFL and made the biggest play of the 1st half, and possibly the entire game, sacking LaNorris Sellers (who already had 88 yards rushing and a 75 yard TD run) on 3rd down at LSU's own 35 with only seconds remaining in the half, preventing Sellers from making it a two possession game, and actually injuring Sellers on the play.

Sellers would take one further snap during the 2nd half and the game's trajectory would alter, with LSU's defense outscoring the Cocks 20-9 throughout the second half, when Swinson tacked on 2 more sacks on Robby Ashford.

Of his 3 sacks, 2 arrived on 3rd downs, 1 with points on the line, but he created yet another devastating piece of chaos when he bashed the ball out of Ashford's hand, forcing a fumble straight to teammate Major Burns.

In one performance, Swinson just topped his 2023 sacks haul (2.5 overall last season), and looks set to be reaking even more havoc if Blake Baker continues his creative utilization of Harold Perkins....the dangers of LSU's fast & furious versatile defender, future top 10 pick drawing attention & intensive manpower his way....carving opportunities for Swinson, Saivion Jones, Paris Shand, among others.

A split second after Swinson swatted the ball out of Ashford's hands, South Carolina player tugging on #4's jersey to prevent his fumble recovery.

Writing this past offseason, LSUOdyssey believed Swinson could become a #1 pass rushing force on the Tigers' roster & among the entirety of college football, due to his towering range, next level athleticism, mental maturity & high IQ, as well as Brian Kelly's hiring of edge rushing mastermind Kevin Peoples as his position coach.

So far, though it's mostly evidence from one game, Swinson's brilliance vs South Carolina was mightily impressive given the scenario, the setting, and the statistical overload by LSU's new #4.....your SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
