In an epic overtime win that kept Cincinnati's dimly lit playoff hopes alive, Joe Burrow reminded everyone once again that he is only bested by 3x Super Bowl winner Pat Mahomes as the top quarterback in the league.

Across a pseudo MVP season, Burrow rode the waves of a turbulent collective campaign that will receive zero plaudits (outside of Pro Bowl honors) due to the Bengals' 8 heart-stopping losses.

Individually though, QB Joe Burrow elevated his game to another level, all while being pummeled into the ground constantly game in, game out (sacked 3+ times in 10 games so far this year...).

Suffering 7 hideous sacks vs the Broncos (a season high) while tossing an outrageous 39/49 for 412 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs (plus 1 rushing TD), Joe conjured one game-turning play after another on a night where the Bengals were lucky to win, continuously blew opportunity after opportunity to finish the Broncos off, and exposed just how many hits Burrow takes on a game by game basis.

A recurring theme that has cost the Bengals 2 of Joe's 5 NFL years due to season ending, career threatening injuries....and somehow after 4 1/2 years with their #1 overall pick QB, a player Cincinnati invested $275 million into, a QB with a rare steambreathing mentality, an elite leader of men who drove the Bengals on an improbable run to the Super Bowl, back to back AFC Championship Games, led the Bengals to 3 straight road playoff game victories (for a franchise that never tasted a prior road playoff victory), and yet somehow, after all this time and accomplishments by Joe in spite of zero protection, Cincinnati and Head Coach Zac Taylor still don't comprehend how to protect their generational quarterback....

Alongside those brilliant statistical records lie disgraceful first time achievements like the fact Joe suffered the most sacks of any quarterback in a single playoff game (9 times vs Tennessee) as well as a single playoff run (19 times in the 2021/22 playoff run)....not to mention how many times he was merely throttled without a defender registering a sack.

The game where Burrow was sacked a record 9x by Tennessee (2021/22 AFC Divisional Round)

Pressured 221 times, hit 41 times, sacked on 44 occasions, Burrow is up against the rising tide, somehow keeping his own head barely above the on rushing water....with a final regular season date vs Pittsburgh left to decide their fate....although even with a win over the Steelers, the Bengals will still need help to get into the playoffs.

Joe suffers a double hit in the Super Bowl
Battling against the howling pain of constant hits, the 2019 Heisman winner set an NFL record with his 8th straight game of 250 passing yards or more & at least 3 TD passes....blowing up the stat book and fantasy leagues in the process.

Another Burrowism, where things cosmically align, Joe's epic performance vs Denver fell on December 28th....the same day he destroyed Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff Semifinal back in 2019 (a coincidence pointed out by LSU digital media creator Harrison Valentine).

Overall this season, Burrow has so far recorded 4,641 passing yards, 42 touchdown passes, 8 interceptions, 423 completions from 606 attempts, 109.8 QBR, 69.8 completion percentage, 202 rushing yards & 2 rushing TDs...one arriving vs Denver.

LSUOdyssey will be posting an article on Ja'Marr Chase's career year in the coming days after the Texas Bowl.
