Highly coveted transfer QB Jayden Daniels is now a Tiger!
Eligible for Spring practices, the former Arizona State slinger is now officially a member of LSU Football....and I don't think we realize just how much we'll need him.
Daniels' move is something we've referenced here and there in our talks about LSU's QB Room, with Kelly's pursuit of a 4th QB becoming all too real about a month and a half ago, even before Daniels entered the portal.
It seemed the QB room was set and settled after Myles Brennan returned, however, when you look at the fact that Walker Howard will most likely be red-shirting this season, Nussmeier may not be "ready" in Kelly's eyes, and Brennan isn't fully trusted as a starter, months from now LSU fans will probably look at this move with major relief.
In 3 seasons at Arizona State, 2019, 2020 and 2021, Daniels tossed for 6,025 yards, 32 touchdowns at a 62.4 completion rating, while rushing for 1,288 yards and 13 rushing scores.....an impressive resume when you consider his lack of weapons on the outside or at Arizona State's skill positions.
Once Daniels entered his name in the portal on February 17th, Kelly, Denbrock and Sloan all pounced. They weren't confident in just three QBs heading into Spring....
I've been told LSU were in constant discussions and may have enjoyed a Baton Rouge visit from Daniels, although his presence on campus is still unconfirmed.
Possessing a stronger than advertised arm, solid escapability, and quick process thinking / awareness within the pocket, Daniels will boost LSU's competition within Joe Sloan's QB room, as well as as being a potential starter for 2022....
We may just be looking at LSU's starting quarterback for next season....

Competition is always necessary, and this position, it is critical.
