On the day Lafayette Christian Academy OL/DL Fitzgerald West Jr signed with LSU (alongside his close friend & LCA teammate Jordan Allen), we asked him how he felt this early into life as a Tiger:
LONN: How cool is it having so much Lafayette talent in one place? You, Walker, Jack, LT, Malik, Jordan, Sage...
FITZ: It's such a blessing.
LONN: Jordan was supposed to be at Penn State only a month ago, so much has changed! Did you ever feel this could happen? That Jordan could join up, too?
FITZ: I've always felt that he was coming. God meant it to be like this, I believe.
LONN: Fitz have you and Coach Kelly talked about your final position?
FITZ: I'm playing center.
LONN: Yes! LSU need one bad. Did you ever know Lloyd Cushenberry personally?
FITZ: No I don't know him, I believe.
LONN: So you want to play center? There was a ton of smoke during your recruitment from people saying you didn't want to play OL?
FITZ: I actually didn't, but I don't mind playing it.
LONN: So what made you think twice about playing center?
FITZ: The school I would be playing at.
LONN: Fitz, what are you most excited about when it comes to next season?
FITZ: Getting to work with my bros.
LONN: You feel like this freshman group could all start on the OL?
FITZ: Yes sir most definitely.
LONN: Who was it that really helped you feel comfortable about the vision of you at center?
FITZ: Coach Davis.
LONN: How did he sell it?
FITZ: He seen me playing multiple years in the league.
LONN: It's that OL technique mixed with a DT's aggression?
FITZ: I believe.
LONN: Fitz, what do you think about playing center with Walker Howard at QB?
FITZ: I'm excited about it.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO TALKING TO FITZ AGAIN, HOPEFULLY FOR A CAREER-SPANNING CONVERSATION!

SHOUTOUTS: THANK YOU FITZ!!! Fitzgerald West Jr is an amazing young man!
I think he could be the smart mauler type we need at Center. Center is a key component of any championship caliber team. We should all be very excited about Fitz.
