During Saturday's post practice press conference, Head Coach Brian Kelly answered a question from WAFB's Jacques Doucet about running back John Emery Jr's future with the team.
Kelly revealed the program wasn't aware of his announcement for a 7th season of college football, while then adding:
“We will be supportive in any way we can, (but) we are set with where we are with the running back position, but love John, and we will be here to help and support him....And, if he’s given a 7th year, he is certainly a young man who can help somebody in the Power Four."
Today's declaration from Head Coach Brian Kelly ends Emery's run as a Tiger at 6 years.....

....finishing with a National Championship ring from his 2019 freshman year (a campaign where he scored 4 TDs, including 1 TD and a few breathtaking runs vs Oklahoma in the CFP Semifinal), 38 overall game appearances (10 during the fabled 2019 season as part of Burrow & Co's G.O.A.T offense), 1,123 rushing yards from 223 attempts at 5.0 yards per carry, 14 rushing TDs, 330 receiving yards, 37 catches at 8.9 per catch, and 2 receiving scores.
After all he's been through, it's fitting John Emery Jr remained as the last 2019 LSU Tiger before Kelly forced his departure, the Tigers no longer an option for the veteran back.
More so than purely on field contributions, Emery Jr will be remembered for how he overcame the odds at every turn, from his partial blindness during his freshman & sophomore seasons, his NCAA academic ineligibility during 2021 lasting clear untim the first few games of 2022 before later becoming a college graduate, returning from multiple ACL tears or ankle injuries and looking like a better player each time, Emery Jr must be given the respect he deserves for what he's accomplished at LSU, all while most circumstances actively worked against him.

We'll be interested to see where he heads for his final year & what his future holds. Despite everything, Emery is an NFL level athlete, whose game & footballing presence evolved & elevated even when he was out for long spells.
A 4ever Tiger 4 sure.

I hope he gets the opportunity to showcase his durability. Everyone knows he has the talent. Best wishes to this Tiger.
