This morning, LSUOdyssey.com received word from multiple sources that former 5 star LSU DB Sage Ryan entered his name into the portal last night.
The former 5 star safety & super-athlete phenom out of Lafayette Christian Academy arrived at LSU with plenty of promise, although injuries took away his freshman season (still managed 2 solid starts vs Florida and Ole Miss) but made only 3 total appearances....out of position at nickel (2 PBUs).
Over 2022 and 2023, Ryan would feature in a rising number of snaps, but at nickel or cornerback; the nephew of Trev Faulk and cousin of Kevin Faulk only played his natural position (safety) during one Spring Game;
Altogether, the now former Tiger produced 64 tackles, 8 PBUs, 4.5 TFLs, 2 FF & 2 FR during his career at LSU, appearing across 1,060 snaps and 29 games (12 starts).
During his second season, Ryan forced 5 turnovers, and became just the 4th Tiger since 2000 to record 2 fumble recoveries from the same game.
In 2023, the former 3x LCA state champion started penetrating the backfield as a blitzer off the edge, producing 4.5 tackles for loss as he played more snaps than ever before, appearing in the 5th most defensive snaps (620) of any Tiger.
Ryan achieved an overall Pro Football Focus defensive grade of 70.0 and 73.3
concerning coverage. He was targeted 37 times, allowed 24 catches, broke up 8 passes, and was the only LSU DB starter who did not allow a touchdown through coverage.
The versatile Ryan, who was once a return game phenomenon at LCA, never had an opportunity to return a single kickoff or punt; Due to his constant shuffling from position to position, filling holes on the roster at 3 different positions, #15 was never given a constant positional home, and all the while still produced solid moments.
Sage will have no shortage of suitors, specifically Saban's Alabama, the 2nd place team vying for his high school signature. Saban always wanted Ryan and continued to pursue him maniacally even into the teeth of his collegiate career.
We wish the best for Sage Ryan and thank him for his friendship with LSU Odyssey, we will continue supporting him into the future.

This article & its news made national sports news headlines everywhere, meaning this site now has 3 officially national credited breaking news stories in the last 30 days to our name (Gilbert transfer & Coach Lindsey return).
I think our defensive coach’s have some responsibility, but Sage never flourished with us. You can blame the coaches for scheme, but there was poor tackling and ball skills on contested throws. Perhaps he will regain his skills at a different location.
